It’s not even halfway through the start of the year, and people are already bombarding me with questions about Win7, finding bugs, website stuff with the Bent Car Guys (www.bentcarguys.org), and my dating life. Well, I love to stay busy, so here’s what’s going on so far.
Geek related, I don’t know that much about Win7 except that it’s out for beta testing so those of you who don’t have frequent access to the corporate Kool-Aid, give it a try, or don’t. I just switched to 64bit Vista, so I’ll stick with that for now.
Bug related, I’m working on a cool project at work that allows me to try a real world customer scenario. I’m learning things about my own product SharePoint Designer that I never knew it could do! I love it.
Website related, well that’s kind of covered by the bug related paragraph previously, as SharePoint is definitely a web-related product. The BentCarGuys.org website will definitely need some TLC soon though, in order to get some new content and features up. It’s not SharePoint based, but at least it’s built on ASP.Net. Still a learning experience in and of itself though. :)
Dating life, um, yeah. I’ve been out for a few drinks so far, but I’m just taking it easy. I kind of like this single thing for the moment, and I’m not afraid to put myself back out there and see what happens. ;) Guess I’ll see what 2009 brings.

Worked from home due to the several inches of snow outside, and the large amount of people who live here and shouldn’t drive on a nice day. That being said, here’s some other stuff I did today!
Prerequisites: Synctoy 2.0, HP ex470 homeserver, Live Mesh, Live Sync.
What I wanted to do, was synchronize my music library, video library, documents, and a few other things between my primary workstation, my laptop, and my home server. Certain things like my music and videos, I want on all 3 systems (just in case I’m travelling with laptop, still want my recorded tv from my tivo.). On my laptop and workstation, I want to have current projects and documents synced. Since no one technology works on all 3 systems (yet), I had to use a few different systems to sync stuff. Here is what I did.
Documents between workstation and laptop, I use Live Sync (http://sync.live.com), which used to be FolderShare. Great product that just went public for syncing folders between systems.
Music and videos, I decided to use synctoy to sync the libraries between workstation and homeserver, and homeserver with laptop. Using this, it allows my xbox 360 to view videos and music directly off the homeserver on the same gigabit switch.
For desktop documents, or projects/documents I want to keep on my desktop on my laptop, workstation, and my work system, I use Live Mesh. Great for text files, todo lists and the like.
In the future, I’d prefer Live Mesh to sync files between all of my devices (including my mobile phone), but for now there are restrictions on the types of files it syncs, and isn’t out of beta yet. Technically Live Sync isn’t either, but it’s built on a proven solution (foldershare) that has been out for a while.
So clearly, there are several ways to get your photos synced (live sync), music and videos synced (synctoy) and everything backed up (homeserver).
Suffice to say, I did not make it into work this morning.

I decided to return to my home town of Mt. Angel for a weekend, and see the Oktoberfest festivities. I got here yesterday, and already have had the sausages, ice cream and beer that make this festival great, but I can't see staying here all 4 days of it. Just as easily as it was many years ago, this town lacks stuff to do, so I think after seeing my little brother tomorrow I'll return to Seattle.

Pain in the neck jokes aside... Ok, I worked out last Friday with a friend, and decided I would try some weight lifting exercises. Nothing major, just a few 15 pound weights, one in each hand, and did a few exercises. The next morning though, I started to feel a slight kink in the neck when I turned to one side, again didn't think anything of it. Sunday, yesterday, and today though, it was barely tolerable so I called up a chiropractor (trying physio next, no worries) in order to get rid of some of the pain. Instead of crunching my neck and back and sending me on my way, he helped stretch me out a bit, pounded my neck a bit with this handheld device which resembled a jack hammer, then electrocuted me in order to fool my body into thinking it wasn't in pain any longer. Felt a bit funny, but worked... Well most of it worked and I'm now more functional than I was this morning, but it will still smart a little when I lie down to sleep. Tomorrow (they don't waste any time) I go in for some physical therapy, and they expect to see me a few times a week for the next month or so. If they make me feel better, I'm all over it! They also gave me some of these vegan anti-inflammatory pills to take. Weird, but as long as they work! Thinking about a hot shower, maybe a jump in the hot tub...

Or was it? Breakfast with my friend Tom, then headed to Seattle to see some of our friends' new Volvo S60 R-Design. WOOF, I'm in love (with the car). Between that and a new Volvo C30 R-Design, I'm kind of in a bind in that I cannot decide between the two! It would have to have nav, the standard bluetooth and other misc options. *grin* I've had to block the Kelly Blue Book website from my browser to keep myself from actually considering trading in my Civic Hybrid for a new Volvo. LOL! Ok, not really, but close...

Today I joined some friends in Ellensburg, WA for lunch (had Thai), a hike on some nearby mountains, then an evening at the Extreme Bull Riding rodeo that was in town. Had a blast of course, but now I have a neck ache (too much whiplash from the eye candy perhaps?) and am exhausted from the 2 hour drive home. Luckily I had a Rockstar energy drink (which I know isn't good for me, but it helped keep me awake to get safely home) to get me through the drive. Does anyone know a good chiropractor in the area (Redmond-ish) that can help me with my neck problem?
As for the rest of the weekend, I'll just have to see what happens. Monday's Labor day, so 3 day weekend is already 1/3 over. UGH! In two weeks is the annual Oktoberfest in Mt. Angel, OR, my home town. www.oktoberfest.org is the website (though it's been down a lot lately, so good luck with that).

Nothing much to report this week. Just getting stuff done at work, planning on a busy weekend, and playing some video games at home.

Coworker's having a shindig at his place Friday, this weekend is Northern Xposure in Seattle (which sounds like a lot of fun too!), and a handful of duties and plans between now and then.
Other than that, the area has had its fair share of thunderstorms and rain the last couple of days, which is a minor reprieve from the unusual heat. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the heat, but when it's too hot to sleep at night, that is when I start having issues...
